Isaac's Potato Harvest Pictures

For about three weeks Isaac had been doing potato harvest for a farmer west of here. He worked long 12-16 hour days and was good enough help that the farmer would like to hire him year round. He took a bunch of photos for us to post but he was only home for a day and then left to do sugar beet harvest for a farmer and will be gone a few more weeks. Anyway, since he's gone I have no idea how to explain these pictures except for they are 'potatoe harvest' photos. I'll do my best to explain them.

Here they're loading the potatoes into the hauling trucks.

The potatos get scooped up and there's slats in the equipment here that makes the dirt fall back down to the ground. All of these potatoes are made into french fries. Isaac mentioned the percent, and I don't remember it, but it was a pretty large percentage of the fries you might eat in this country.

Today the kids are out finishing up garden stuff. Caleb is chopping the corn down as Miriam picks ears and Priscilla is shucking it. We need to hurry! It's suppose to snow on Friday and get even colder. Brr!

Well, we had our last weekend at the maze. Jessica came over to help some with her brother. I gave her some glow jewelry to wear as 'advertizing'.

It was cool out but the people came anyway. I liked this photo with the rainbow in the background. Overall, we were really happy with how the maze went and are looking forward to next year.

Here's that nasty gorilla. It's actually Caleb!

The last couple of weeks Miriam has been doing most of the canning, including over 200 quarts of tomatoes. (spaghetti sauce, stewed, and salsa) Yesterday she attacked the apples and canned about 35 jars.

Hosanna was our main popcorn ball maker during the maze.
Well, it's time to get back to normal life again. Thanks for putting up with all the maze stuff! If you think of it, please pray for those that took tracts at the maze that they would be read and understood and that maybe even some lives would be in heaven as a result. Please pray for Naomi and Aaron too, as they make zillions of wedding decisions. And, if you really have time to pray today, pray for my sister-in-law that she would have no problems with having her baby and for my brother-in-law who is having some really painful back problems.
Have a great day in the Lord!

  1. I remember working potatoe harvest.. We didnt work that long though! We worked 10 hours, and we worked on the harvester, picking out dirt clods, weeds, and rocks before the potatoes were loaded onto trucks. It was a lot of fun, but a ton of work too.

  4. Those potato harvest pictures make me homesick. I used to take most of October off when I was in high school to help my Dad harvest. I did everything from picking those dirt clods to driving truck, driving the tractor and loading train cars with potatoes (that was WAY long ago.) It took weeks to get the dirt out of you nose and eyes. :)
