Natalie Having a Calf Part 1

We've tried for a long time to get a video of a cow having a calf but somehow they're really good about having them when we're not around. At least until today. This is Natalie, a red and white holstein. Arthur does AI or artificial insemination on a lot of the cows and one of the traits he breeds the cows for is calving ease. As you can see, it was a breeze for this mama! Doing AI also eliminates the need for having big bulls around which is a real safety factor and costs less. We do keep a dairy and beef bull around for the ones he doesn't catch but their young bulls.

  1. The claving video is really fun. It's os hard to "cathc" them as they're so good at waiting until eveyone's gone in before they give birth. I'm enjoying your blog! Thanks for sharing!
