That's a Lot of Fur!

For some reason these pictures got distorted - sorry 'bout that.  Today Isaac sent his furs from trapping off to the fur auction.  The flat beaver pelts look like they should be covering midevil shields, don't they?  So Isaac is happy today to get them off.  For about seven years when I was in high school and before I got married I worked on a mink farm with about 30,000 mink and I still appreciate looking at furs.  Welll, maybe not the nice black ones with the white stripes!
A few years back I tried canning dried beans and it was a total failure.  Well, I've been meaning to try it again so today I did one canner of kidney beans (on the left), one canner of pinto beans (in the center), and one canner of black beans (on the right).  So far they look like they turned out okay and I can't wait to try them. I have a hard time opening something I just canned so they will probably sit in the pantry for a couple of weeks first.

Did you all read Naomi and Aaron's blog and their exciting news?  Yes, Naomi is expecting!  Sometime in late October so that will be three grandchildren for us.  Makes me feel old and yet I sure wouldn't trade those sweet children for anything!  The Bible is sure true when it says "Children's children are the crown of old men and the glory of children are their fathers." Proverbs 17:6   So often you see grandparents raising their grandchildren.  I'm not sure I could do that, but I sure enjoy them under thier parents care.  Seems like just yesterday our children were little.  Congratulations, Aaron and Naomi!  We're praying for you!

Did you all read the P. family's blog, Growing in Him?  They're starting a corn maze!  What can we say except that Caleb sure got firsthand experience while staying here.  We'll be praying for you all too!

Well, it's felt like Saturday all day for some reason.  Tomorrow Naomi's students have a piano recital which includes her siblings so that's on the agenda.  I should go get some things done.  Enjoyed your visit Mr. and Mrs. B. today.  God bless you all tonight as you sleep the sweet sleep only God can give.

  1. WOW, that's a lot of furs!!! :) Oh, btw, I love all your family photos on the sidebar of your blog!! I laughed looking at them, because I had memories of you all from almost all of those points in our lives...good memories. :)

  2. Our Josiah is going to ove seeing these furs. Thi is hi dream in life.
We are just moving and right across from our country home is a taxidermist. I hope they like 10 year-old homeschoolers cuz our son can't wait to go over for a visit and maybe stay there for a year or two. :-)

I am the same way with canning. I just can not let us eat them until they sit and look pretty on my shef awhile. The whole point is to have food tored away for when we need it right. :-)

  3. I love the family/kids photos!!! :)

  4. I have tried canning beans several times, and each try produces different results. I seem to have difficulty retaining liquid in the jars after processing. Do you have any suggestions? How did you do it this time? Your beans look beautiful! You can email me at if you like. Thank you!

    -Mae W.
